On Thursday, September 24, at 6 pm, the Keramikkünstlerhaus warmly invites you to the opening of an exhibition featuring our fellows Sarban Chowdhury from India and Julia Schuster from Austria/Sweden. As part of the international °Ceramic Artist Exchange – Tandem programme, the two artists have spent six weeks working intensively on new works. The works created during their stay will now be presented in an exhibition for the first time. The evening will begin with a short introduction, followed by an artist talk with Sarban Chowdhury and Julia Schuster. Afterwards, everyone is warmly invited to join us for drinks and conversation at our pop-up bar in the garden.
The exhibition will be open from Friday, September 25, through Monday, September 28, daily from 2–5 pm.
Julia Schuster: work in progress
Julia Schuster (Vienna) is a visual artist living and working in rural Sweden. She holds an MA in Ceramics from the Royal College of Art, London, and a BA in Design from the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy. Her practice combines clay and ceramic installations with photography, video and writing. Learning from different cultural contexts is central to her work. She has undertaken residencies and research trips in Denmark, India, Nepal, the UK, South Korea, Paris and Mexico, among others.
In Neumünster, Schuster’s work began with a need to make circling movements with her hands, creating and following circular lines repeatedly. The resulting sculptures are tactile thoughts on abundance and emptiness, fullness and void. Through repetition and variation, the installation and intimate performance Mormor (Mothermother in Swedish) explore connection and separation, boundaries and openings, independence and longing. Mormor is a meditation where gestures of protection and giving become gestures of strength.
Her training as a birth doula and engagement with end-of-life care at the hospice in Neumünster also inform this work, connecting clay, birth and death as acts of transformation, vulnerability and emergence.

Sarban Chowdhury: work in progress
Sarban Chowdhury (India) is a dreamer, thinker & visual seeker. His work presents a visceral understanding of our contemporary world through the exploration of subjects pertaining to personal and collective experiences.
“Someone’s Therapist Knows All About You” maps the archaeology of an emotional state through a constellation of visual uncanniness, excavating memories, unspoken feelings, vulnerabilities and intimate confessions through layered, constituted and invented meanings. Moving through desire, projection, dependency, disillusionment, imagination and self-recognition, the work unfolds as a fragmented visual diary of text and pictorial metaphors—an excavation of the emotional residue left by relationships and their aftermath, with a satirical commentary on society and the influences that reshape its perceived reality.
The artist creates a sense of eeriness and unease, encouraging viewers to consider what they are seeing—and what compels them. The works represent moments when illusion collapses and insight emerges: sometimes painful, absurd or liberating. Together they resist romantic idealisation, presenting love as contradictory: nourishing yet destructive, transformative yet confusing, deeply personal yet shaped by larger emotional and social structures.
